| Tim Wakefield (3-4, 4.70) vs. Jeremy Guthrie (2-6, 3.64)
Ortiz is out again. BOSTON 1. J. Ellsbury, LF 2. J. Lugo, SS 3. K. Youkilis, 1B 4. M. Ramirez, DH 5. M. Lowell, 3B 6. J. Drew, RF 7. C. Crisp, CF 8. A. Cora, 2B 9. K. Cash, C BALTIMORE 1. B. Roberts, 2B 2. N. Markakis, RF 3. M. Mora, 3B 4. A. Huff, DH 5. K. Millar, 1B 6. L. Scott, LF 7. R. Hernandez, C 8. A. Jones, CF 9. F. Bynum, SS 41-year old Tim Wakefield was outstanding at Seattle on Wednesday, but Boston could only manage two hits in the 1-0 loss. Wakefield allowed the only run of the game on a third-inning homer while holding the Mariners to five total hits and striking out eight in eight innings.
Wakefield is 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA in his last four starts, although he's received only eight total runs of support in that span. He's also struggled at Baltimore recently, going 0-2 with a 7.47 ERA in his last three starts there.
Jeremy Guthrie is looking for his first win since beating Boston 5-4 on May 13 at Camden Yards, has been receiving even worse support. The right-hander has a 2.18 ERA over his last three starts, but has lost them all while getting only two runs of support.
"I thought about that for the last five days," Guthrie said. "You enjoy the opportunity to be in a scuffle, to be in a fight. Personally, I'm able to be in one of those -- it seems like -- every five days, where every pitch matters, where every at-bat is big. You enjoy that and that's what makes this game fun. Unfortunately, for me, it's not going the right way."

Yeah, let's hope Wakefield's knuckleball isn't "on" toinight and we can get Guthrie some run support tonight. If you saw his quote (bold above) you gotta believe the lack of run support is starting to play with his head. Nice addition of the Camden Yards photos as background!

Yeah, I don't care who is pitching, Melvin Mora should NOT be stealing! Yet another potential big inning down the drain.

Mrs. Scott takes exception to that comment and blames Luke's father for his baserunning stupidlity. Just like last night, as soon as Scott rounded first and headed for 2nd base, Jim Palmer said "oh no!". He was saved from his own stupidity last night by a bad throw. No such luck tonight. Two baserunning errors in two innings by the O's. %^$%^&^%$^&()*^%

Trembly is right. Not only is it way too wide, it's inconsistent which is even more annoying! Jim Palmer is all over the umpire, too. Palmer just said "Jeremy, there is your run. Go get 'em baby!" (assuming that will probably be all he gets tonight).

| Guthrie is such a competitor. He refuses to give in, gets out of every jam (thus far), makes the great defensive play from in front of the plate (that Ramon should have made) and shuts down the powerful Red Sox line-up after getting a few runs in support.
Right now, he's #1 on my O's list of players.

Right now, he's #1 on my O's list of players. It's too bad the O's don't score runs for him and I think your spot on with your assesment of Guthrie.

He gives up the solo shot but comes back and gets the next batter on 3 strike pitches. He does not get rattled. (wondering why even pitch to Manny with Ortiz out????)
